Job Brief We are seeking a dedicated Payroll Assistant to manage the payroll processing for our Australian workforce with precision and adherence to local legislation. This role is pivotal in ensuring our employees are paid correctly and on time, providing essential support to our payroll operations. Working under the guidance of our locally based Payroll Officer, the Payroll Assistant will handle various aspects of payroll processing, from calculations to compliance, and maintain accurate employee records. This position offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic HR team and requires a detail-oriented professional with a strong understanding of Australian payroll regulations. Responsibilities:
- Fortnightly Payroll Processing: Manage the payroll cycle for various employment types, ensuring all payments are accurate and issued promptly.
- Statutory Compliance: Accurately calculate and deduct PAYG, superannuation, and other statutory requirements in compliance with Australian laws.
- Employee Records Management: Keep employee records current regarding tax declarations, payment details, and leave balances.
- Reporting: Prepare and dispatch required reports to the ATO, including STP submissions and Superannuation Guarantee Statements.
- Employee Support: Serve as the first point of contact for employees payroll inquiries, providing clear and concise information.
- Year-End Processes: Assist with the preparation and completion of year-end tasks such as PAYG summaries and superannuation reconciliations.
- System Assistance: Support the Payroll Officer in the implementation and maintenance of payroll systems, ensuring data integrity and security.
- Collaboration: Work in conjunction with HR and finance teams to ensure payroll practices are aligned with company policies and employee needs.
- Extensive experience with payroll processing within an Australian context.
- Thorough knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, including the Fair Work Act and Modern Awards.
- Proficiency in payroll systems, preferably EmploymentHero, with a strong aptitude for technology.
- Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail to ensure compliance and correct payroll delivery.
- Strong organizational skills with the capability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively interacting with both finance professionals and non-finance employees.
- Independent problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
- Experience in system transitions and payroll implementations.
- A background in HR or finance that supports a broader understanding of business impacts on payroll.
- Advanced skills in EmploymentHero payroll software.
- Competency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, for payroll calculations and reporting.
- A qualification in business administration, finance, or human resources is preferred.
- A meticulous and methodical approach to ensure accuracy in all transactions.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive interactions and handle sensitive information.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to legislative or procedural changes swiftly.
- Commitment to professional development and staying informed on changes in payroll practices and laws.
