Overview

We are looking for a skilled Vehicle Canopy & Fit-Outs Draftsman to support an Australian client. The role involves producing accurate design and fabrication drawings for custom vehicle canopies, tray bodies, toolboxes, storage systems, and fit-outs. This is a remote/outsourced position requiring strong drafting skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with materials and manufacturing processes used in vehicle modifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare 2D and 3D CAD drawings for vehicle canopies, tray bodies, toolboxes, and fit-out systems.

  • Translate design briefs, sketches, and client requirements into detailed shop and fabrication drawings.

  • Develop cutting lists, BOMs (Bills of Materials), and assembly instructions for production teams.

  • Ensure designs meet Australian automotive and safety standards.

  • Work closely with engineers, fabricators, and project managers to ensure accuracy and manufacturability.

  • Revise and update drawings based on client or workshop feedback.

  • Maintain drawing libraries and documentation for ongoing projects.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Diploma/Degree in Drafting, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field.

  • Proven experience in vehicle canopy, tray, or 4x4 fit-out drafting (or similar custom fabrication).

  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar).

  • Knowledge of sheet metal, aluminium, and steel fabrication techniques.

  • Familiarity with Australian Design Rules (ADRs) and relevant vehicle modification standards.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with remote teams.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience in off-road/4x4 canopy systems and modular fit-outs.

  • Skills in 3D rendering/visualisation for client presentations.

  • Exposure to laser cutting/CNC sheet metal processes.
